Regular study programme timetable
The standard study programme begins in September each year and runs until the start of the summer. It starts with an intensive module consisting of weekly three-hour seminars, followed by a number of smaller modules. The annual PhD workshop, during which first-year PhD candidates present their research and receive feedback from other Amsterdam Law School researchers, takes place in June.
PhD candidates who live abroad or are unable to participate in the regular study programme due to work or other commitments, can take an intensive course. This course is organised annually just prior to the start of the academic year. During this week, PhD candidates, who must be present fulltime, will be offered a selection of courses from the regular study programme. They will also have the opportunity to present their research and receive feedback from other legal researchers. Moreover, external PhD candidates will have the chance to get to know the School from which they are pursuing a doctorate a little better.
In 2019, the intensive course will be organised in the week commencing 26 August.
Please note: we strongly recommend that PhD candidates take the study programme in the first, and in any case no later than the second year of the doctoral programme, so that they may reap the full rewards of the acquired knowledge throughout the remainder of the programme.
